I did this first at Canoe but it’s appeared all over the place at our restaurants. It’s a family recipe from my mom’s side. And yes, it’s canned creamed corn… I don’t know why but it just works. It’s best on the griddle.
Details surrounding Fring’s, chef Susur Lee’s latest venture in Toronto, are scarce. However an appearance by Drake was more than enough to generate hype in the absence of a menu.
The restaurant, located at 455 King St. West, the former home of Crush Wine Bar, was unveiled during a private event on Monday, Sept. 21.
“Them boys up to something,” Drake commented on an Instagram photo of himself, Lee, OVO’s Angelo Ferraro and Lee’s sons Kai and Levi Bent-Lee at the restaurant’s launch. During the opening, Fring’s reportedly served salmon tartare, burgers and chef Jamie Kennedy’s fries, while Drake manned the DJ booth. Jada Pinkett Smith, her son Jaden, and tennis star Serena Williams were also spotted at opening night event. “I am very excited to announce my newest project in Toronto,” Lee posted on Instagram alongside the Fring’s logo. While Lee told the CBC Drake is more than a guest at Fring’s, the extent of the Toronto rapper’s involvement in the restaurant isn’t clear. The chef also noted credit for new project belongs to his sons, who operate Bent on Dundas Street West. When Fring’s will open its doors to the public is not yet known.
