Flying and palatable cuisine are usually as far apart as the traveller’s destination.
The New York City-based publication recently ranked the restaurant, located in the Vancouver International Airport, as the fifth best airport restaurant worldwide.
To compile its 35 Best Airport Restaurants list, The Daily Meal researched existing rankings from the Travel Channel, CNN and Conde Nast Traveller. The online magazine also polled a selection of well-travelled chefs and food writers to determine the best location for a culinary layover.
Globe@YVR reached fifth place due to its expansive space, high ceilings and upscale lighting. The restaurant’s baked Mediterranean tart with eggplant and goat cheese; cedar-wrapped British Columbia salmon with whiskey maple sauce and smoky buttermilk fried chicken and watermelon feta salad also received mention.
Globe@YVR’s dinner menu specializes in local, Pacific Northwest cuisine and the Ocean Wise program. The restaurant is located in the Fairmont Vancouver Airport hotel, directly above the United States departures terminal. Globe@YVR previous ranked No. 20, in The Daily Meal’s 2013 list.
LEE Kitchen by Susur Lee at Toronto Pearson International Airport also made the list at No. 22. The Daily Meal noted Lee’s unique blend of Asian And French-inspired cuisine, including a full dim sum menu and menu items like cheeseburger spring roll lettuce wraps and spicy beef tacos with goat cheese.
The Gorgeous Kitchen at Heathrow Airport in London ranked No. 1 on the list.
