In the latest episode of Beyond the Plate, chef Marc Cohen reveals an appreciation for change.
Which is good, because in the last 10 years he has seen lots of it. Restaurant Lawrence (temporarily closed) is co-owned by Chef Marc Cohen, Sefi Amir, Annika Kraus, Ethan Willis. Lawrence opened in 2010 and offered creative cooking in an elegant setting and a properly curated beer and wine list. A goal of supporting responsible local agriculture was part of the launch strategy which created a nice segue in 2014 for Boucherie Lawrence. Only a few doors down, the butcher shop cum grocery store offers whole animals from small farms, allowing the (lucky) neighbourhood access to the restaurant’s sourcing. The new location also gave rise to a charcuterie program as well as a pastry and baking operation. In 2016, Larrys+ arrived. The concept? A casual all day-all-in-one cafe/restaurant/wine bar/breakfast-joint and an excellent showcase for the group’s efforts – especially now that Covid has turned Montreal upside down.
