Alo Midsummer, the posh stand-alone patio experience from the Alo Group, was in many ways even more indulgent than their previous best effort at Alo, Toronto’s — and Canada’s — number 1 restaurant. Social distancing created room for a parade of new champagne and digestif trolleys. With fewer seats and almost no turning of tables, the service atmosphere was more relaxed. And the dishes (like that light foie gras mousse set in a sablé tart shell) that comprised the 10-course meal were as refined as ever. Whether or not Midsummer returns for another season will be announced in June.
