A Lone Bottle Of Balvenie Fifty Is Available In Canada

Rare Balvenie 50-Year-Old Scotch whisky will be Released in Vancouver on Tuesday

A single bottle of Balvenie Fifty will go on sale in Canada, and the price matches its rarity.

On Jan. 12, the $45,000 bottle will be on sale at BC Liquor Store’s flagship Cambie location in Vancouver. The bottle is Number 68 from cask 4567 (filled on May 28, 1963) and one of only 131 bottles in the world.

Balvenie Fifty (45.4 ABV) is described as rich and deep with an abundance of oak, notes of raisin and a spicy burst of ground ginger and cinnamon.

“On the rare occasions that Scotch whisky is left in cask to mature for 50 years, there is no guarantee it will turn out to be a great single malt,” said Elizabeth Havers, Canadian Brand ambassador for Balvenie.

“In the case of The Balvenie Fifty, Malt Master David Stewart has created a unique combination of natural alchemy and centuries old craftsmanship, and we are delighted to know that this expression will find a loving home here in Canada.”

Fifty is considered the pinnacle of the brand. Each of the 131 hand-blown bottles of “Fifty” are hand-filled at The Balvenie distillery and housed in hand-crafted cases made from 49 layers of wood and a closing layer of brass.

In Honour of Fifty’s release, Havers will host a tasting class at the BC Liquor Store Cambie location on Jan. 13, 2016. The brand’s ambassador also hosts a Master Class at the Victoria Whisky show on Jan. 16.
