Canada’s Hummingbird Chocolate Maker is a Winner
The Hispaniola chocolate bar created by Hummingbird Chocolate Maker in Almonte, Ontario has been awarded the 2016 Golden Bean prize at the Academy of Chocolate Awards in London.
The UK-based Academy of Chocolate is a celebration of good chocolate and a forum that encourages ethical craft. The annual competition draws in some of the best artisans from Europe, and around the world. Hummingbird’s Hispaniola bar won over 14 other prestigious world gold winners (including chocolate giant Michel Cluizel) – the first Canadian company to win the prestigious award.
Hummingbird also won three silvers and two bronze in the awards.
Hummingbird was started by ex-aid workers who spent their career working directly beside farmers. They source their cacao fairly, ethically and sustainably to ensure that the farmer
receives better than Fair Trade prices.
Congrats to proprietors Erica and Drew Gilmore. We fully support you in your obsession “…with making the best possible chocolate we can.”
