Boulevardier Cocktail

I was originally taught a 1:1:1 ratio, but it always seemed a little off to me. The whisky would get lost, and the balance was off. So I rejigged it to be heavier on the whisky while relaxing the Campari and vermouth. I started making them that way, and guests seemed to respond better. Years later, I stumbled upon an article that confirmed my feelings about the ratios. It felt like a nice validation to trust my palate and also taught me that not all cocktail recipes are set in stone. — Amber Bruce




• 11⁄2 oz overproof bourbon/rye (your choice)

• 3⁄4 oz Campari

• 3⁄4 oz sweet vermouth



• Orange twist



Stir over ice, and serve up or on the rocks (your choice). Garnish with an orange twist.
