Wine Club Anarchy
Do your part to chip away at the oppressive provincial monopolies and restrictive regulations stifling your access to good wine. Buy your libations from independent clubs and shops that really care. Some provinces — notably absent from this list — still do not allow third-party alcohol sales. Note that some of the shops and clubs listed below may only ship “locally,” but if you ask nicely, they might be able to make an exception… Not that we condone or would in any way suggest breaking the law. —DICK SNYDER

WineAlign Exchange
Independent club shipping across the country, sourcing wines from all consignment and private agents in Ontario. Wines selected by respected independent wine professionals: Sara d’Amato, David Lawrason, Michael Godel, and John Szabo.
Bishop’s Cellar
One of only four privately owned and operated stores in Nova Scotia. Well respected, with global selection and good prices.
Wine Collective
One of Canada’s largest and oldest wine clubs. Launched in 2009. Good values and accessible pricing.
Vessel
Not a club, but a key wine shop on Vancouver Island, and a hub for events, education, and tastings. Online sales and several mixed curated cases are on offer at any time.
Somm Wine Club
Headed by well-known B.C. wine figure Sean Nelson, a subscription club supported by IGTV tastings and detailed notes.
New District
Wine club run by DJ Kearney, a respected wine professional with years of experience as an educator, consultant and wine judge. Interesting selections, de- tailed notes, video tastings.
