Alberta’s Top 5 Restaurants

There’s only one way to console yourself about the end of summer: make dinner reservations now to enjoy harvest season later.  Why not start with the five best restaurants in Calgary from our 2024 list.  At River Cafe, located on beautiful Prince Island Park, the menu includes seasonal offerings rich in rural flavours executed with urban finesse. At Eight, chef Darren MacLean is known primarily for his Japanese-inspired cooking, but here, his culinary preoccupation is with Canadian identity, which, for him, is polycultural. Indigenous cooking has an important role in the program, but so does Calgary’s Korean community, along with the Chinese, South Asian — and French. At D.O.P., patrons squeeze together like they’re family and indulge in classic dishes made from recipes passed down to owner Tony Migliarese from his mother, Rose.  Major Tom offers city views, old-school steakhouse fare, a quirky and ambitious wine list, and a selection of classic-with-a-twist cocktails. Or just pack up and head to Canmore to experience Änkôr (our People’s Choice Winner 2024), where chef-owner Danny Beaulieu brings together refined flavours — fermented plums paired with in-house dry-aged duck and smoky lapsang souchong tea to play against mackerel, and the artistry on the plate is rivalled only by the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.
