Calling all young Canadian chefs! The Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship 2019 wants you.
Applications for the 8th annual Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship 2019 are officially open. The Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship (HYCS) aims to empower young chefs across the country through this nnual competition – Canada’s largest search for the next culinary superstar.
The competition allows aspiring chefs to strut their stuff in front of a panel of judges, with a chance to take home a grand prize of $10,000 and a stage at one of the best restaurants in the world.
The competition will take place in May in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. Anyone familiar with TopChef gets the drill: each regions 10 candidates compete to prepare a dish using specific ingredients in 90 minutes.
The top two candidates from each region move on to the finals where they execute four identical main course and dessert dishes for the judges (including HCYS founder David Hawksworth). The winner will be the young Canadian chef who displays the drive, passion, skill and professionalism to succeed as judged by the panel of discerning industry professionals.
The national annual competition begins with the following regional heats:
Calgary on May 4 at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)
Vancouver on May 10 at Vancouver Community College (VCC)
Montreal on May 23 at the Institut de tourisme et d’hôtellerie du Québec (ITHQ)
Toronto on May 25 at George Brown College
