Bar Pompette

It takes a truly special patio to lure bar regulars into the great outdoors, but even diehard “insiders” are bound to be tempted after a glance at Bar Pompette’s shady backyard oasis. This intimate courtyard is essentially an extension of the award-winning bar’s inside space, albeit with a little more oxygen and a lot more greenery.

“Same music, same menu, same approach to service and the same idea of being cozy,” bar manager Simon Taggart notes. “We have cushions, low lights that we keep dim, and music that’s just loud enough that you don’t feel like you’re in everyone else’s conversation.”

Two big trees and multiple hanging plants add to the charm, keeping the mood relaxed and inviting to anyone craving a little fix of biophilia. Flow, décor, atmosphere and, of course, service — every element of the patio experience is guided by a thoughtful approach to hospitality as imagined from the guest’s point of view.

Many of Pompette’s drinks are highly suitable for outdoor lounging. Two of the house cocktails — the Paloma Quemada and the Nitro Colada — are refreshing long drinks with tropical accents. This summer will see the return of It’s Pink, a white Negroni with rhubarb and reposado tequila, among other seasonal treats inspired by fresh Ontario produce.

And for those who think the height of alfresco drinking involves fresh beer or bubbly wine, take note that the tasty Alsatian-inspired pilsners are made in collaboration with Burdock Brewery and that the sparkling wine selection is next-level.

For getting all of these essential elements so right, while delivering a convivial guest experience at an extremely high level, Bar Pompette is our 2025 award winner for best patio.
