The action at this 60-seat hipster bistro pivots on a crowded bar, fashioned from vintage barn boards of various colours.
The ceiling above is decorated with reclaimed wood, and curves gently down the opposite over a large communal table. The room is framed with white brick walls adorned with blackboards, on which are listed the daily oysters and other specials. This rough-hewn, industrial look is brightened with the sunlight shining through the floor-to-ceiling window at the street. And the food—which is part gastropub, part bistro and all (well, almost entirely) local. The oysters might come from as far away Beausoleil—but more likely they hail from Cape North or Bras d’Or.
Starters run the gamut from smoked haddock fish cakes to a simple lobster salad with mango or roast mushroom tart. Mains span seared scallops with lobster risotto and rapini to grilled ribeye (pasture raised, grass fed and potato finished—according to the Bluedot program in PEI) with demi-glace and sunchokes. The wine list features many Nova Scotia offerings—some of quality. And, of course, there are a host of local beers.HOURSDINNER
