Brisket is Good For You

Researchers at Texas A&M have found that brisket, the beloved cut of barbeque fanatics around the world, is good for you.

Brisket carries a very high level of oleic acid which helps to regulate cholesterol levels, according to Dr Stephen Smith, a professor at Texas A&M. That acid, according to Smith, is also found in canola oil and olive oil.

Oleic acid is an omega-9 fatty acid which helps reduce the risk of heart disease by raising your levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), known as “good” cholesterol. Oleic acid also has the added benefit of lowering low-density lipoprotein (LDL), known as “bad” cholesterol.

It looks to us like this news is meant to encourage burgers made from brisket because, according to Smith, “The brisket has become one of the preferred trims to produce ground beef.”

Or will become after this news.  Most of the pre-ground beef at your grocery store is from trim and scraps.  We recommend you enjoy this good news by buying some ground brisket at your local butcher and enjoying your newly healthy, super-tasty guilt-free brisket burger.
