Alana Nogueda Cobra’s Fang Cocktail Recipe

Jan. 27 2022

Cobra's Fang

NOGUEDA DID NOT INVENT THE COBRA’S FANG —a vintage tiki drink — but she may well have perfected it by dialing up the anise notes and adding extra overproof rum. It’s the kind of drink that instantly transports you to a better place — your last vacation or, minimally, your last trip to a great tiki bar. “Not only can you escape the cold with the Cobra’s Fang,” says Nogueda. “You can also escape everything that’s going on in the world and take a break from everything you want to take a break from.”

INGREDIENTS

• 11⁄2 oz dark rum

• 1 oz overproof rum

• 1 oz orange juice

• 3⁄4 oz lime juice

• 3⁄4 oz fassionola syrup*

• 1⁄2 oz falernum syrup*

• 2 dashes herbal bitters (like Angostura)

• 6 drops Pernod

OPTIONAL GARNISH:

• sprig of mint

• 1 dehydrated-lime wheel

METHOD

Combine the rums, juices, half the fassionola, the falernum, bitters, and Pernod in a cocktail shaker half- filled with ice. Shake well for 60 seconds. Fill a tall glass or tiki mug with pebble ice and strain the cocktail into the glass. Drizzle the remaining fassionola over top and garnish.

*Fassionola (passionfruit and other tropical fruits) and falernum (clove and almond) syrups are tiki essentials that can be purchased at select cocktail supply shops.
