What’s hot on the travel front right now.

The sexy, stylish new SLS Barcelona might be your best option for the best of both worlds: close to the city centre’s cultural icons, and a calming seaside setting to return to after a hot day spent stomping around Barcelona. There are four restaurants and two bars on-site, including Kyara from cocktail hotshots Alex Kratena and Monica Berg, the bartending duo behind London’s Tayēr & Elementary bar (#5 on the World’s 50 Best Bars list 2025). The distillates used in Kyara’s drinks come from Robertet, a Grasse-based company that supplies the perfume industry with high-quality natural essences, making cocktails like the Verbena + Bergamot Margarita14 a multi-sensory experience.

Built in 1930 as a private home called The Clouds, The Colony Club began on a six-acre estate overlooking the Platinum Coast. While maintaining its old-school elegance, the recently refreshed property now caters admirably to modern travellers with a taste for exceptional dining, wellness and unique local activities. Dishes are inspired by Barbados’ culinary history, with much of the produce coming from the resort’s garden. There’s English teatime, artisanal coffee demos and Barbados’ first Rum Vault, with 150-plus global varieties, making it a must-visit for rum lovers.

Serenity is the order of the day at Toronto’s new Nobu Hotel. Blending modern luxury with Japanese tradition, the rooms have breathtaking floor-to-ceiling windows and views of Lake Ontario, the CN Tower and the city skyline. The Studio Munge décor leans in to soothing warm neutral tones and features Japanese spa-inspired bathrooms (including Nobu’s iconic deep-soaking wood tub). Fitness types will enjoy the Pilates reformers and Peloton bikes on offer. And just in case the downtown location reels you in with its myriad nightlife offerings, the complimentary, all-Canadian wellness mini-bar potions are there to help out.

Country inns can be a little short on charm. Not so with Caledon, Ontario’s The Liberty Inn. Owners Jacqui Liberty and Bruno Roldan have transformed a historic 1955 building with an excellent eye for detail. Most of the five suites have fireplaces, and all have kitchenettes. In-suite amenities include infrared saunas, red-and blue-light therapy masks, and record players with a curated vinyl collection. While there’s no restaurant, creative meal workarounds abound. Family-and dog-friendly. Did we mention the on-site Nordic Spa?

The new Hyatt Place Whitehorse makes an excellent base for exploring the untamed beauty of the Yukon. The northern lights, hiking, canoeing, dogsledding, the Yukon River waterfront, and cultural landmarks like the MacBride Museum of Yukon History are all on offer. Local Indigenous art and design are on display throughout the hotel, honouring the region’s heritage. Oversized windows in the 115 guestrooms frame sweeping views of the city’s surrounding mountains.
