Le Filet

Hugely popular, noisy and busy, the Filet is a must for those who want to go out, see the cool people of Montreal and eat brilliantly composed, tasty dishes—all in the same venue. Opened four years ago by the team behind Club Chasse et Pêche and Le Serpent, Le Filet is not where you want to bring your grandparents when they visit (unless they love high decibels and dramatic lighting). It’s where you go to mingle with local celebrities, party with friends, and try new wines while hanging out at the bar with some of the coolest people in town. All this while eating impeccably prepared dishes such as raw scallop with avocado, orange and beet, or grilled octopus with Israeli couscous and Meyer lemon coulis. The menu leans heavily but not exclusively towards fish and shellfish, but you can also expect Quebec standards like foie gras, duck, pork and venison. In a city where glamour is too often, sadly, inversely proportional with culinary quality, this restaurant is a glorious exception. A delightful wine list and a small terrace with a view on Park Jeanne-Mance complete the picture.
