Best Bars 2025 No. 10

JJacques

This three-in-one venue is part cocktail bar, part oyster bar and part restaurant. That may seem ambitious for a small speakeasy tucked off a quiet side street in Saint-Roch, but Jjacques code-switches seamlessly. It’s themed around the golden age of travel, so if you’re feeling première classe, order a top-shelf French 75 with Krug Grande Cuvée Champagne and Hennessy VSOP Cognac. For a road trip, take the Caravane (a pisco-based drink with jasmine tea, mint, cucumber and lime). Or feast domestically on a magnificent seafood tower. The intimate and elegant ambience turns festive and vibrant on weekends. This is the rare Quebec City kitchen that stays open late, so the bar is often filled with off-duty chefs and somms.

Sip
L’Escapade from the Aérien secton of the menu, a Ramos Gin Fizz riff that’s fluffy enough to take flight.
Late bites
The full menu is available until 1 a.m., plus freshly shucked oysters until 3 a.m. on weekends.
Next stop
Julio Taqueria (same owners), for Mexican-inspired gluten-free cuisine and minimalist cocktails.
