The poise and elegance of Bar Banane really stands out on the Ossington strip of bars, restaurants and ice cream shacks. A short flight of stairs leads to a sophisticated lounge perfectly tuned for canoodling in a nook; or, entertaining a larger group in a cozy room just off the main bar. But on a perch at the bar is a fine place to be. Engage with head bartender Dhruv Sachdeva, a trained distiller focused on thought-provoking drinks like What’s Up Doc? — a cheeky carrot, aquavit, lemon cocktail with a hit of earthy Fernet-Branca. The menu is deep in whimsically named drinks, such as the best-selling Slap Dash (espresso Martini) and Midnight Brekkie, a creative mezcal drink with peanut-butter-and-jam vibes.
Tip
Bar snacks (duck confit croquettes, pork jowl and savoury churros) are superior.
