Business & Pleasure

The name notwithstanding, this Inglewood bodega bar primarily doles out pleasure. In front of it is Super Variety, which serves coffee in the morning alongside stacked sandwiches and, as the day dwindles, fancy Highballs and wine-to-go whenever you please. At the back, a dedicated cocktail bar proffers nostalgia-tinged drinks in a lively yet warm, familiar environment. But don’t equate “familiar” with “basic.” The single malt program is passionate. Drinks like the After School Special, a homey cola-and-tonic, build depth with shōchū, Esquimalt Kina-Salal (a Nanaimo-made quinquina) and umeshu liqueur. Thanks to a recent expansion initiative, the food could entice you to stay for dinner — perhaps for katsu sandwiches, Welsh rarebit and the build-your-own charcuterie board with toasty focaccia. Keeping pace is the Studio North interior with its soaring vaulted ceiling, which elevates the venue even further.

Drink
Single malt Scotch-tails, such as No Ordinary Love, made with Ardbeg Wee Beastie, oloroso sherry, B.C. vermouth, port, absinthe and salted honey.
