There’s an undeniable romance to this Dundas West rock ‘n’ roll bar that has only richened over its 17-year existence. West End denizens sip sake-based cocktails, pints of Sapporo and Japanese whisky Highballs in the glow of a vintage pinball machine. Asahi is served at a studied chill. There’s a charming chromium-and-Formica sheen to the bar stools and tables. Posters and other ephemera have been carefully collected to reflect the Japanese rockabilly atmosphere. Owner Hideki Saito has rock-star panache, and that’s not an empty platitude — his rockabilly band, the Ichi-Bons, play around the city.
