No. 6: Lot Six

Situated within the historic Carleton Hotel building in downtown Halifax, the two-storey Lot Six Bar is an oasis of craft cocktails and Canadian wines.

At  Lot Six Bar & Restaurant, which opened in 2015, Oysters and cocktails are the main draws. Lot Six attributes this to the fact that drinks are not a compliment to the meal, the meal lives to compliment the drink — at Lot Six, the bar is the focus.

This bar is located in an area steeped in Halifax’s past, finding itself within the historic Carleton Hotel building, on the sixth lot on the block — and suddenly the name “Lot Six” makes sense.

Head bartender Shane Beehan showcases premium local spirits on his cocktail menu, giving each libation a distinct sense of place. The cocktail selection is extensive and intricate, the bartenders expertly layer, blend and serve up flavourful and unique creations. Choosing what to order can be tough with so many amazing options, so we suggest the Free to Roam

A vaulted glass ceiling and glowing twinkle lights provide a welcoming and outdoorsy ambiance, making Lot Six not only a destination for good drinks but a destination for good drinks in a stunning setting nonetheless.

The food menu is intended to complement the 16 hand-crafted cocktail offerings, and utilities local ingredients to showcase the East coast. The restaurant has choices from both Land and Sea, whether poached sea pass or sous vide beef cheeks suit your fancy.

Between its location in the heart of downtown Halifax, it’s aware-wining bartenders, fresh and local eats and true East coast spirit, Lot Six is lucky number six on our  50 Best Bars list for good reason.

Lots Six is No. 6 on our inaugural Canada’s Best Bars list
